Alarming Footage Shows Instant Officers Get Knifed in Surprise Attack
A police sergeant that leaped to the aid of a partner that was assaulted by a knife attacker received the Royal Recognition for Valor.
Sergeant Tim Ansell fought with twenty-seven-year-old Jacob Brown after he pressed a weapon to the neck of his colleague Sergeant Marc Foster.
Brown initiated the assault as the policemen and their colleague, PC Marcus Wolstencroft, were speaking to a driver after a road collision in Whalley Range in mid-2023.
Brown stabbed and slashed both Sgt Ansell and Sgt Foster before PC Wolstencroft stopped him with a electric weapon.
"Officer attacked," the constable could be heard saying over his radio.
Officer-mounted and dashboard camera footage shared by the police department depicted Brown, wearing in black with a hood covering head, run up to Sergeant Foster from the rear with a weapon outstretched.
He collided with the policeman who tripped and went down to the ground, after which Sergeant Ansell stepped in and struggled to restrain him to the ground although being repeatedly struck with the weapon.
PC Wolstencroft drew his Taser and awaited a open target, bringing the confrontation to an end.
Sergeant Ansell was heard stating: "Can I get help on my throat now, I got knifed in the neck."
Sgt Ansell suffered two lacerations to his throat and more cuts to his arms and body, while Sgt Foster suffered cut injuries.
The department reported Sgt Foster utilized his palms to stop his partner's blood loss prior to emergency responders arrived.
The latest recognition comes after the trio of policemen were granted departmental Courage Honors in late 2023 and the prestigious bravery honor from the area Police Federation in early 2024.
They further earned a North West Courage Honor in July 2024.
"The responses of each policeman ultimately saved one another and resulted in no bystanders endured any injuries."
Brown was sentenced to an secure medical confinement in April 2024, per authorities.
