Marnus Labuschagne Omitted from Australian One-Day International Lineup Versus Team India

Marnus Labuschagne has been dropped from the three-game ODI series against India, with in-form Queensland teammate Matt Renshaw receiving a unexpected inclusion.

Recent Form Lead to Omission

Selectors dropped Labuschagne from the one-day international team following managing only a single run in each of his two innings during the recent series against South Africa in August. Labuschagne has a best innings of forty-seven in his last 10 ODI innings.

Labuschagne has featured in 68 ODIs and accumulated 1,871 ODI runs at an average of 34.64, but will now work towards a Test team comeback ahead of the Ashes beginning in Perth on November 21.

Renshaw's Return and Team Updates

Recent performances suggest of a return to form with a score of 160 for Queensland in the Sheffield Shield this week, while Renshaw scored a century for the Bulls in the identical match against Tasmania.

Renshaw could to make his ODI debut in the forthcoming series against India after last being included in an ODI squad in 2022.

Renshaw has played 14 Test matches with the most recent appearance in India in 2023 but is also seeking a red-ball recall as Australia look for a solution to their opening batting issues.

Bowling Returns and Injury News

Left-arm quick Mitchell Starc returns for the ODI series against India after being rested since performing well for Australia in the whitewash of West Indies in July.

Big Bash star Mitch Owen could make his ODI debut after suffering a concussion in the lead up to Australia’s previous 50-over series against South Africa.

Team Announcement Approach and Schedule

Australia have named a squad for only the initial two T20 matches against India with the Ashes on the horizon, although Glenn Maxwell will miss all of the five-game T20 series due to a wrist injury sustained in New Zealand.

Mitch Marsh will captain both the ODI and T20 sides after scoring a hundred in the last match against New Zealand to clinch a two-nil victory last week.

“Selectors have announced a squad for the ODI series and initial two matches of the T20 series as there will be rotation through the later stages of the series as players get ready for the cricket season through Sheffield Shield cricket,” Australia chair of selectors George Bailey said.
“The majority of the T20 squad will stay as a group as it’s an important period in the build towards the World Cup next year, however we are aiming to find equilibrium to ensure we simultaneously prepare certain individuals for the Test series ahead.”

Australia’s three-game ODI series against India commences on October 19 in Perth, before the rivals play five T20 internationals from October 29.
